Three Year Olds Four Year Olds

Our Three Year Old program is based on the New Jersey Preschool Teaching & Learning Expectations and the Early Childhood Guidelines from the Diocese of Metuchen.

The focus is to provide our little scholars with hands-on activities allowing them to learn through experimentation and exploration while developing higher order thinking skills. And of course, having fun while developing confidence and self-esteem!

Specific topics and subjects explored include:

  • Language development and literacy
  • Phonological awareness
  • Counting, sorting and problem solving
  • Creative expression and music
  • Socialization and healthy habits
  • Shapes and colors
  • Numbers
  • Gym

Our Four Year Old program is designed to help children achieve the confidence and readiness skills needed for Kindergarten. The focus is to go beyond the academics and promote the social and emotional development, creativity, and positive approaches to learning while encouraging a preschooler's playfulness and self-esteem.

Specific topics and subjects explored include:

  • Math: our math program includes weekly learning themes that incorporate other subject areas such as Science, Social Studies and Language Arts. The program includes hands-on activities and a math lab kit. The kit explores math manipulation using colors, shapes and measurements. There are also math storybooks to enhance learning as well as workbooks where we will learn how to identify, write and use numbers in Math puzzles.
  • Language Arts: In Language Arts we will learn to identify and write letters and begin to learn phonic awareness through the use of song, stories, flashcards and games. In class we will be using various handouts to practice and master handwriting. Teachers will work closely with students as they begin to use their small motor skills for gripping a pencil, crayon and using scissors.
  • Reading: Our reading program is called Pre-K Literacy. This program includes a group of storybooks, both large and small, and a lesson to go along with each book. This program is designed to aid in the student's ability to retell a story, identify characters and sequence a story. There are small crafts and assignments to coincide with each story. Students will also learn about poems and rhyming in this section. In addition, students will also develop listening skills.
  • Religion: Using two texts: I am Special and Discovering God's World we cover a wide range of topics. Students will learn about the Catholic religion and values and focus on family, holidays, friendship, sharing and caring, and understand the unique characteristics of how to be a good person.
  • Circle Time: During circle time we will talk about the days of the week, months of the year, seasons and weather. We will also review the alphabet, numbers, sing songs and read lots of stories.

Our goal is to provide our children a well rounded, safe, fun atmosphere to encourage spiritual, emotional and intellectual development.
